Syrian prelate welcomes French Catholics’ prayers for persecuted Christians
August 19, 2015
The Melkite Greek Catholic archbishop of Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, has expressed gratitude to the French dioceses that took part in an August 15 initiative in which church bells were rung at noon to call the faithful to pray for persecuted Christians in the Middle East.
In the end, 76 French dioceses, and at least 59 elsewhere in Europe, took part in the initiative, said Archbishop Jean-Clément Jeanbart of Aleppo, and “this awakening of the eldest daughter of the Church,” provided much comfort to the faithful.
On the morning of August 16, water and electricity were restored in Aleppo for the first time in a month, he added.
