Cardinal laments ‘heartless’ world economy

Preaching in his hometown of Alfambra, Spain, on the Feast of the Assumption, Cardinal Santos Abril y Castelló, archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, denounced “those who have transformed the economy into a dangerous game of selfish interests,” not taking “into account the welfare of the community, but only the greed of individual profit,” according to a L’Osservatore Romano summary of his remarks.
A “heartless” international economy “has no regard for the good, enriches the rich, and impoverishes the poor,” the 79-year-old prelate added.
