Following a trip to East Timor, where he signed a diplomatic accord, the Vatican’s Secretary of State traveled to Singapore.
“Today’s Gospel invites the Christian community to look with some urgency at new and creative ways of carrying forward the proclamation of the Gospel of salvation in a changing society,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin preached at Mass on August 15. “This includes addressing the new challenges that emerge in a ‘globalized’ and more connected world, offering practical assistance to an emerging reality in need of guidance.”
“As Singapore continues to progress in contributing much to the international community, it is important for the Catholic Church to be a partner with all people of good will in recognizing the place of religious faiths, virtue and morality as essential foundations of a society and a nation,” he continued. “In the face of aggressive secularism, the Church needs to present a rational and patient witness.”

Today's Mass reading from Judges 6: 11-24 Gideon asks 'Forgive me my lord, but if the Lord is with us, then why is it all this is happening to us?' The Lord replied to Gideon 'Go in the strength now upholding you and you will rescue Israel from the power of Midian. Do I not send you myself?' This scripture is surely an encouragement 4 us - Like Gideon the Lord sends us and through the power of His Word and the Eucharist we know His Church will conquer and we will bring the lost sheep back to God
