LCWR leader sees narrowing 'cultural chasm' between her group and Vatican

August 14, 2015

The president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) has said that recent talks with the Vatican have helped to bridge a “cultural chasm” between the group and the Church hierarchy.

Speaking at the annual assembly of the LCWR, Sister Sharon Holland said that new lines of communication have been opened between the Vatican and American women’s religious orders. She observed that it is unusual for the Vatican to conclude an apostolic visitation with a joint message, such as the one issued by the LCWR together with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to conclude the Vatican’s push for reform of the group.

Yes, the chasm between the LCWR and the Church hierarchy is narrowing. The Church hierarchy is becoming more and more like the LCWR.

If the report was mainly written by the LCWR, that explains why many people thought it was a whitewash.
