Pope baptizes baby of old friends from Argentina
August 13, 2015
An Argentine couple flew to Rome to accept an invitation from Pope Francis to baptize their child.
Lucas and Ana Schaerer-- who had become acquainted with the future Pontiff while working for an organization that fights human trafficking in South America—sent Pope Francis a sonogram image of their baby in the womb. The Holy Father replied, offering to baptize the child. On a sudden impulse, after the baby was born, the family flew to Rome, where they stayed in a convent for pilgrims; the baby was baptized in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, where the Pope now lives.
