Italian parish offering 'baby bonus' for parents with three or more children

August 11, 2015

An Italian parish is offering a special bonus of €2,000 ($2,210) to families at the birth of a 3rd child and subsequent children.

Father Stefano Bimbi began offering the bonus to parishioners in Staggia, Siena, with the approval of a parish economic council. He said that the “baby bonus” would offer “concrete support during difficult economic times to families with the courage to accept the gift of a child.”

To qualify for the bonus, couples must be residents of Staggia, and married in the Church. The funds are distributed when the children are baptized.

Father Bimbi said that the parish will continue offering the financial aid “until funds run out.” Since the policy was inaugurated earlier this year, only five couples have been given the bonus.
