Vietnamese Christian human-rights activists released after 4-year prison terms
August 05, 2015
Two Vietnamese Christians have been released from prison after completing their full 4-year sentences for anti-government activities.
Paulus Le Van Son, a Catholic blogger; and Nguyen Van Oai, a Protestant human-rights activist, were reportedly told that they could be released early if they would confess to having sought the overthrow of the government. They were convicted after a trial in which they were denied legal representation, on charges that their defense of human rights was a threat to the government.
