Government officials in India have reportedly directed internet service providers to block several hundred web sites that carry pornography.
More than 800 sites were “found to be spreading anti-social activities,” the communications ministry said, explaining the decision to shut down access. The secretary of information technology said that the government was taking action in response to a supreme court ruling. The court has directed the communications ministry to continue monitoring some sites-- although officials acknowledge that the task is difficult because pornographic web sites are frequently moved to new servers.
