New Armenian Catholic Patriarch was retired before election

The Catholic News Agency profiles the newly elected Armenian Catholic Patriarch Gregory Peter XX Ghabroyan.

At the age of 80, the Armenian prelate had already resigned from his post as leader of the Armenian Catholic community in France. Nevertheless, when the Armenian Synod convene in July, to choose a successor to the deceased Patriarch Nerses Pierre XIX Tarmouni, they chose then-Bishop Ghabroyan, calling him out of retirement to lead the worldwide community of 1 million.

The new Patriarch of Cilicia will be formally installed this month at the the headquarters of the Armenian Catholic Church in Lebanon
