Rome's mayor, Italian intelligence chiefs differ on terror threat level for Jubilee Year
July 31, 2015
Rome’s Mayor Ignazio Marino has said that Islamic groups have made specific threats against the city, but Italian intelligence agencies dispute that claim.
Mayor Marino told the daily Corriere della Sera that US intelligence sources were citing “concrete risks of terrorist acts” during the coming Jubilee Year. He said that he would need extra help to protect the city, because “I can’t defend the capital from terrorism with local police.”
Italian intelligence agencies, however, downplayed the threats. “There is no specific sign of attacks being prepared for the Jubilee,” a source told the ANSA news agency.
