Bishop protests destruction of crosses in China
July 29, 2015
An elderly bishop and 26 of his priests gathered outside a government building in the Chinese city of Wenzhou to protest against the demolition of crosses at churches in Zhejiang province, according to AsiaNews.it.
The ministry of Bishop Vincent Weifang Zhu, born in 1927 and appointed Wezhou's bishop by Pope Benedict in 2007, is also recognized by the government.
Crosses have been removed from over 1,100 Protestant and Catholic churches in China since 2013.
Following the July 24 protests, Catholics and Protestants in the region have launched a campaign to make crosses and "carry them everywhere," according to AsiaNews.
