Cardinal counsels patience with new Nigerian leader

July 24, 2015

Cardinal Anthony Okogie, the retired archbishop of Lagos, has advised Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari as he addresses corruption and seeks to counter the threat from Boko Haram.

The jihadist organization was likely responsible for bomb blasts in Nigeria and Cameroon that killed 53 people on July 22 and 23.

"A good soldier always strategizes," Cardinal Okogie said of Buhari, according to a Lagos-based newspaper. "They take their time to do things. They don’t just jump into doing things."
