Vatican official defends collaboration with UN

July 16, 2015

The chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences has defended the Vatican’s collaboration with leftist political parties and with the United Nations.

“The United Nations is not the devil. Rather, quite the opposite,” said Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, responding to a reporter’s pointed question about why the Pontifical Academy had invited politicians from left-wing parties to a conference on sustainable development.

“The invitation is open to everyone,” the bishop said; “If you would like to invite other people, we would be very pleased.”

Bishop Sanchez Sorondo, who has drawn conservative criticism in the past for promoting political causes, said that the Pontifical Academy had received some help from the UN in organizing the Vatican conference. Pointing out that every Pope since Paul VI has shown support for the UN, he said that such cooperation is healthy.

The naivete of the Vatican knows no bounds!

The devil, no. It's not a matter of evil, just bureaucratic incompetence, unfocused goals and a confusing array of perspectives and national self interests.

Not the devil, no, but an agent, certainly. Well-intended originally, too much money and too little accountability has allowed it to become fat, lazy, self-righteous, and a prey to every left-wing progressive theory in the Culture of Death. The US needs to stop funding it and kick it out of our country. Instead, we should give those funds directly to good agencies who actually help people, and preserve traditions and liberties.

Perhaps, but it appears that only left-wingers and warming-earth activists were invited to participate. The science in this latest encyclical is decidedly one-sided and in some cases flat wrong.
