Pope back on regular work schedule after South American trip

July 15, 2015

Pope Francis was back on his regular work schedule on Tuesday, July 14, less than 24 hours after his trans-Atlantic flight at the conclusion of a busy trip to South America.

Msgr. Guillermo Karcher, the Vatican director of protocol, said that the Pontiff was at his desk, “fresh and lively,” early on Tuesday morning.

Pope Francis did not hold his regular weekly audience on Wednesday, July 15, however. The Vatican had previously announced that the Pope’s schedule of public appearances would be cut back slightly during the summer months, with no Wednesday audiences during July. The weekly audiences will resume in August—held in the Paul VI auditorium to provide pilgrims with some protection from the summer heat.

As in the earlier years of his pontificate, Pope Francis has no plans to take a summer vacation.
