Church desecrated in India

July 14, 2015

A Catholic parish in Taherpur, an Indian city of 20,000 near the border with Bangladesh, was desecrated on the night of July 9, according to Indian media reports.

“We are really terrified,” said Father Satish Makal, who observed that the tabernacle was missing the following morning. “The raiders took out the tabernacle weighing about eight to ten kilograms and desecrated it.”

The church’s recently hired caretaker has been arrested in connection with the case. Police said that they were convinced from the start of their investigation that the desecration was "an insider's job," since there was no evidence of forced entry and all doors and windows in the church were secured.
