Christians are targets of kidnapping in Baghdad

July 10, 2015

Four Christians have been kidnapped in Baghdad in the past two weeks, and two were killed despite the payment of ransom, the Fides news service reports.

Two Christian families received only the bodies of the kidnap victims, after having paid $25,000 for their release. One other hostage was released, after payment of $50,000 in ransom. Only one of the kidnap victims was set free without a ransom payment, as police raided the base of his abductors.

The targeting of Christians prompted Imad Youkhana Yako, a Christian member of parliament, to challenge security officials to ensure the safety of the country’s Christian minority.
