Italian bishops' spokesman: government should support traditional family
July 09, 2015
Italian government policies should provide support for “the family founded on a father and a mother, who seem to be absolutely missing at the moment,” says Bishop Nunzio Galantino, the secretary-general of the Italian bishops’ conference.
Bishop Galantino spoke out in reaction to reports that Prime Minister Matteo Renzi will propose giving same-sex partnerships legal recognition as civil unions, but with a status less than that of marriage. The bishop denied reports that he had conferred with supporters of the civil-union bill.
