Islamic militants place bounty on Asia Bibi's head

July 09, 2015

The husband of a Pakistani woman who faces a death sentence for blasphemy says that Islamic militants have vowed to kill her even if her conviction is overturned.

Asia Bibi has been imprisoned for five years, and still faces execution under Pakistan’s blasphemy law, although there is substantial evidence that she was falsely charged. Ashiq Masih, her husband, reports that a bounty has now been placed on her head. If his wife is released, he said, they and their five children will be forced to flee the country, because the will be targets for assassination.
