Rebuild society on love of God, Pope urges Italian judicial body
June 15, 2015
Pope Francis received members of the Italian Superior Council of the Judiciary in audience on June 13 and said that globalization has been accompanied by an “ideological colonization” that originated in societies that are “economically developed but ethically weakened.”
This colonization has brought a “profound shock” to cultural roots, the Pope continued, and courts and other public bodies are called to “render the foundations of human society more solid by the recuperation of fundamental values. To these values, Christianity has offered the true and most appropriate foundation: the love of God, which is inseparable from love of neighbor.”
“Institutions are required to recover a long-term strategy, geared to the promotion of the human person and to peaceful coexistence,” he added, as he called for action against corruption and financial crime and the education of youth in a manner that is “not relativistic,” but corresponds to the “high and profound inspirations of the human soul.”
