Rhode Island bishop buries unborn child whose body was discovered in sewage

June 11, 2015

Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, has presided at the burial of an unborn child whose body was found in sewage at a wastewater-treatment plant.

The body of the unborn child, now known as “Baby Francis,” was discovered in January. Police have not been able to find the child’s parents, or determine how his body arrived at the treatment plant. After a 5-month investigation, state medical authorities released the body to the Providence diocese, responding to Bishop Tobin’s offer to give the child a decent burial.

“This child is certainly a victim of that throwaway culture,” the bishop said. Conceding that virtually nothing is known about “Baby Francis,” he said: “We do know this is a child of God.”

Bishop Tobin is to be thanked for having the funeral & burial of this child, Baby Francis. More states need to have laws/provisions allowing women who can't care for a newborn to be taken to a hospital or fire station. This would hopefully save more lives of newborns. People need to be reminded too that this option is available. All hospitals in Arizona have this notice outside the hospital doors.

May Baby Francis rest in the arms of Jesus.
