Mercy sums up the Gospel, Pope says

June 05, 2015

“Mercy is the word that summarizes the Gospel,” Pope Francis said on June 5 as he addressed the general chapter of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

“We might say that [mercy] is the face of Christ,” the Pope continued. He remarked that Jesus showed his face to those He healed, to sinners, and finally, on the Cross, to all those He redeemed. He reminded the Dehonian priests (named for their founder, Father Leon Dehon) that “the Lord calls upon us to be channels of this love firstly towards the least among us, the poorest, who are privileged in his eyes.”
