Pope leads Corpus Christi celebrations in Rome

June 04, 2015

Pope Francis said that the Eucharist is “not a prize for the strong but a source of strength of the weak,” as he led the traditional celebration of Corpus Christi on June 4, which is observed as a holiday at the Vatican.

The Pope presided at Mass in the basilica of St. John Lateran, then traveled by car across the city of Rome to the basilica of St. Mary Major to greet the Eucharistic procession there and join in adoration and Benediction.

In his homily at the Mass, the Pope said that the Eucharist is “the viaticum that allows us to go forward and move along.”
