Do not permit refugees to drown at sea, Germany’s Christian leaders urge

Cardinal Reinhard Marx, the chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference, has issued a joint statement with Orthodox and Lutheran leaders calling upon Germany to be more open to refugees.
“In Germany also today, there is still open and hidden racism,” they said. Warning that the “Christian West” is at stake, they added that Europe cannot permit those fleeing “from war, violence, and persecution” to drown on the open sea.
