Colombian bishop 'clarifies' controversial remarks on homosexuality

May 18, 2015

A Colombian bishop who last week called for acceptance of same-sex unions has said that he supports the Church teaching on sexuality.

“Even if homosexuality as an inclination doesn’t constitute a sin, it’s regarded as a disordered conduct,” said Bishop Juan Vicente Cordoba of Fontibon. He had earlier said that although they cannot be considered marriages, the Church does not object to same-sex unions. Bishop Cordoba apologized for having used “unfortunate colloquial expressions” in his earlier talk when he suggested that one of the apostles might have been homosexual and St. Mary Magdalene may have been a lesbian.
