Keep faith growing, Pope encourages bishops from Namibia, Lesotho

April 24, 2015

Pope Francis spoke of the “flourishing Christian faith” in Lesotho and Namibia, as he met on April 24 with bishops from those African countries.

In his message to the bishops, who were concluding their ad limina visits, the Pope spoke of the great accomplishments of the Church in Namibia and Lesotho, including the schools, clinics, and hospitals under Catholic administration. “I encourage you to continue supporting and nurturing these great blessings, even when resources are sparse,” he said; “for the Lord promises that he will not fail to bless us.”

The Pope took notice of special problems that confront the Church in the two countries, including the spread of AIDS and the fact that many families are under strain because wage-earners seek employment far from home. “I think you for your efforts in promoting family life in the face of distorted views that emerge in contemporary society,” the Pope told the bishops.

Sadly, one has to point out that it might be more fitting if, when he says, "Keep the faith growing," the Pope addressed himself to bishops in Europe and America. The so-called "Spirit of the Council" - which of course had almost nothing to do with Vatican II - has in the last fifty years wrecked the Church in many places on both continents, but the Pope just heedlessly continues with the supposed "reforms" and with his criticism and denigration of faithful Catholics. Africa, though, seems fine.
