Cardinal Baldisseri speaks about the Magisterium and the search for new languages

April 22, 2015

Speaking in Warsaw on April 18, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, told Catholic journalists that “your main task, in the words of Pope Francis, is not to build walls but bridges; it is to establish a dialogue with all people, even those who do not share the Christian faith.”

“Integral fidelity to the Magisterium the Church does not debase legitimate freedom of inquiry and expression, but instead encourages the search for new languages to encounter … our contemporaries thirsty for truth,” he said.

Preaching at the cathedral in Warsaw the following day, Cardinal Baldisseri said that St. Peter did not use “diplomatic and politically correct language” but instead was a “man of truth.”

The upcoming synod on the family and extraordinary jubilee of mercy, the prelate added, will “help the whole Christian community to rediscover and proclaim with renewed enthusiasm the Gospel of truth in mercy and mercy in truth.”

Dear Cardinal Baldisseri: In order to have a dialog you have to have a position, not just, "Blah blah blah, let's all agree that we all love each other; and if you are against the direct words of Jesus, well, we understand. Do what you like! Maybe you'll gradually grow to agree with Him. Meanwhile, have some Holy Communion."
