Pope meets family of Asia Bibi, Pakistani woman facing death sentence
April 15, 2015
Pope Francis met on April 15 with relatives of Asia Bibi, the Pakistani woman who is facing a death sentence for alleged blasphemy.
Following his regular weekly public audience, the Pontiff met with Masih Bibi, Asia’s husband, and their daughters. “I am praying for Asia, for you, and for all suffering Christians,” he assured them.
Asia Bibi, whose conviction has been upheld by Pakistani courts despite a complete lack of evidence, has been in prison for five years. Islamic activists have put heavy pressure on the courts to carry out the death sentence.
