Yet another priest murdered in Mexico

April 10, 2015

For the 10th time in two years, a Catholic priest has been murdered in Mexico.

Father Francisco Javier Gutierrez was shot in the head, and his body was found by the roadside outside the town of Salvatierra, where he served as pastor. His wallet and cell phone were missing, leading police to suspect that robbery was the motive for the crime.

Cardinal Alberto Suarez Inda of Morelia announced the killing, and sent his condolence to the priest’s family and parishioners. He expressed shock and indignation at the killing, but added: “We ask the Lord to forgive those who caused this serious crime.”
