India: police arrest one suspect in gang-rape of nun

March 27, 2015

Police in India have made an arrest in connection with the gang-rape of an elderly Catholic nun earlier this month.

Police reported that a suspect had been detained in Mumbai, and was being brought to Calcutta, where the crime occurred. In Calcutta, police said that they had identified several suspects by the use of surveillance-camera footage, but until March 25 no arrests had been made.

Christians in India have frequently complained about the slow police response to incidents of anti-Christian violence.
