The future Pope Francis on fervor and evangelization

March 26, 2015

L’Osservatore Romano has published a brief 2006 text by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio on contemplation and action.

The text, a foreword to a book by Father Víctor Manuel Fernández, now an archbishop, discusses the importance of fervor and evangelization.

Apostolic courage, said the future Pope, arises from contemplative familiarity with Christ, a familiarity spurs us on to prayer and action. Citing the intercession of Abraham for Sodom and of Moses for the faithless people, Cardinal Bergoglio wrote that boldness is manifested in prayer as well as action.
