Vatican vigil marks 20th anniversary of Evangelium Vitae

March 24, 2015

The Pontifical Council for the Family has organized an international vigil, hosted by the Roman basilica of St. Mary Major, to mark the 20th anniversary of Evangelium Vitae, the landmark encyclical on the dignity of human life by St. John Paul II.

The vigil will begin with an examination of some of the artwork in the basilica that relate to the theme of human life. It will continue with the recitation of the Rosary, followed by a Mass at which Archbishop Vincenzio Paglia, the president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, will be the principal celebrant.

The events from the basilica of St. Mary Major will be broadcast over video links to the Marian shrines at Fatima, Lourdes, and Guadalupe, and broadcast on some Italian, French, and American television networks.
