Head of Roman charity urges help for the poor, cautions against profiteering during Jubilee Year
March 20, 2015
The head of the Roman office of Caritas, the Catholic charity, has suggested that utility companies should offer special support for the poor during the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis.
During the Year of Mercy, funds could be established to pay for utility service to the poor, suggested Msgr. Enrico Feroci. The Jubilee Year, he said, “must not be an opportunity for doing business” but a time of showing mercy to show in need.
Msgr. Feroci also expressed concern about crime and profiteering during the Jubilee. He said that “each time a space opens up, someone tries to infiltrate it” for personal gain.
