Senate Democrats block bill to aid victims of human trafficking, insist on abortion funding

Democratic members of the US Senate have blocked passage of a bill to aid victims of human trafficking, because the bill does not provide funding for abortions.

The Democratic Party, determined to include abortion funding in the measure, has threatened to filibuster the Justice for Victims in Trafficking Act. Republicans, who control the majority in the Senate, have said that they will keep the provision barring against abortion: a provision that matches the intent of the Hyde Amendment, barring federal funds for abortion.
