Regnum Christi to mark 75th anniversary with ‘sober joy’

March 13, 2015

The head of Regnum Christi, the movement founded by Father Marcial Maciel, has asked its members to celebrate its upcoming 75th anniversary.

Father Maciel (1941-2008), removed from public ministry by Pope Benedict XVI, died in disgrace amid revelations of sexual abuse of seminarians and affairs with women.

“It seems to me that the celebration of these 75 years of history ought to be characterized by a sober and humble joy,” said Father Eduardo Robles Gil. “Years ago we were convinced that our charism was a part of the new springtime of the Church.”

“Today we continue to be certain that it is the Lord who has raised up our spiritual family, at the same time recognizing that weeds also grow in our field and that we have experienced human fragility and sin,” he added. “Yet despite these weaknesses, we know that Christ lives, that he accompanies us today, and that we can rejoice today because his goodness cannot be extinguished and his mercy is eternal.”
