Maronite Church will promote organ donation in Lebanon

March 06, 2015

The Maronite Catholic Church has agreed to encourage organ donors.

In an accord with Lebanon’s national committee for organ donations, the Maronite bishops’ conference will form a committee to promote donations in parishes, dioceses, and Catholic health-care institutions. Father Edgar Haiby, a spokesman for the Maronite bishops, said that the committee would reach out to the faithful, assuring them that the voluntary donation of human organs is in accord with Catholic teaching.

" . . . in accord with Catholic teaching." News flash: this is very dangerous. Organ harvesting is a big $$, and is rarely done ethically. Organs degenerate quickly after death, so removal will often be done while the body is still on life support. So, no natural death has actually occurred - until after the harvesting. The only exception is in the case of the cornea, which remains healthy for a time after death. The Maronites are ill-informed in this matter!
