Papal preacher begins Lenten sermons
March 02, 2015
Father Raniero Cantalamessa, the preacher to the papal household since 1980, devoted his first weekly Lenten sermon to Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium.
Father Cantalamessa’s February 27 sermon was preached in the absence of the Holy Father, who was concluding his annual retreat.
The four sections of Father Cantalamessa’s sermon were entitled “the personal encounter with Jesus of Nazareth,” “how to respond to the new needs?”, “the Gospel fills with joy the heart and life of the believer,” and “faith, works and the Holy Spirit.”
