Captors threaten to kill kidnapped Jesuit if he returns to Afghanistan

February 27, 2015

A Jesuit priest who was released this week after 8 months of captivity in Afghanistan has disclosed that his kidnappers told him he would be killed if he was seen in Afghanistan again.

Father Alexis Prem Kumar, an Indian priest who was serving in Afghanistan as head of the Jesuit Relief Services, was abducted last June. He told reporters that his captors did not mistreat him, and he never feared for his life. But he was told upon release that he would be shot if he tried to return to Afghanistan.
