Slovak bishops urge yes vote in referendum on marriage, sex education

Stating that “not all generations have the opportunity to decide the future of their homeland,” the bishops of Slovakia have urged the faithful to support a measure on marriage and family life in a February 7 referendum.
The Central European nation is 74% Catholic.
The measure, which requires a 50% voter turnout as well as a majority vote in order to pass, would define marriage as the union of a man and a woman and bar adoption by homosexual couples.
The measure also states that “schools shall not require children to participate in education in the area of sexual behavior or euthanasia if their parents or the children themselves do not agree with it,” according to Amnesty International, which opposes the amendment.
