'Unbroken' screened at Vatican

January 08, 2015

American filmmaker Angelina Jolie screened her new movie, Unbroken, at the Vatican on January 8, and met briefly with Pope Francis.

Unbroken, which opened in American theaters on Christmas Day, was shown privately for Vatican officials. Pope Francis did not attend the showing.

Based on a book of the same name, Unbroken tells the story of Louis Zamperini, a world-class athlete who survived brutal treatment in a Japanese prison camp during World War II. The film has been criticized by some viewers for downplaying Zamperini’s later conversion to Christianity.

"Zamperini's later conversion to Christianity." Zamperini was raised Catholic. Oh, I keep forgetting that many "Christians" regard Catholics as not being Christian.

Although Ms. Jolie is not a practicing Catholic now, I believe that she was a Baptized Catholic. Her mom, whom Angelina deeply loved, was a devout Catholic and she was raised in a Catholic home. I admire and respect Ms. Jolie, and I follow her work closely. She has used her fame, power, and wealth in absolutely incredible ways, and worked tirelessly to help the less fortunate. She has made biracial adoption far more acceptable. I personally am deeply grateful to her and I pray for her often.
