Decline continues in number of US abortion centers
January 02, 2015
The number of abortion centers in the US has dropped by 23% in the past 5 years, the National Catholic Register reports, citing figures from Operation Rescue.
In the past year, 73 American abortuaries were closed. Operation Rescue says that since 1991, 75% of the surgical abortion facilities in the country have closed.
The decline in the number of centers can be attributed to a number of factors: the decline in demand for surgical abortions, the wider use of the “morning-after” pill, and the passage of new legislation raising safety standards for abortion clinics.
