Chaldean patriarch urges pre-Christmas fast, subdued Christmas celebration

December 19, 2014

Citing the “heavy cross” borne by Iraq’s Christian refugees, the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church has called upon his flock to fast from December 22 to 24, according to a report from the Assyrian International News Agency.

Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako also called upon “all Christians not to organize any kind of worldly celebration at Christmas or New Year, given such bitter circumstances, as a sign of solidarity with their displaced brothers and sisters who are going through indescribable suffering.”
