Christmas tree arrives in St. Peter's Square; lighting set for December 19

December 04, 2014

A massive Christmas tree, a white fir over 80 feet tall that will be set up in St. Peter’s Square, has arrived at the Vatican.

A ceremonial lighting of the tree will take place on Friday afternoon, December 19. At the same time, the Vatican will also unveil the Nativity scene in St. Peter’s Square, composed of 25 life-sized figures.

The Christmas tree comes this year from the Italian province of Fabrizia, Calabria. The Nativity scene is a gift from the Verona for the Arena Foundation.
