Italy’s president meets with Pontiff

Pope Francis met with Giorgio Napolitano, Italy’s president since 2006, in a “strictly private” meeting, according to an announcement from Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Holy See Press Office.

The November 21 meeting between the Pontiff and the 89-year-old president took place in Domus Sanctae Marthae, and in a “climate of great cordiality,” Father Lombardi said.
