Pope Francis met with participants in the Salesian Sisters’ general chapter on November 8 and encouraged them to “waste time” in front of the tabernacle so as to be effective evangelizers of youth.
Noting that society today is marked by “many forms of material and spiritual misery,” including “lack of love and relationships,” the Pontiff asked members of the Church’s largest institute of women religious to go to the “peripheries” and show “preferential attention” to the poor and excluded.
The Pope also encouraged the sisters to help youth grow in “personal adhesion to Jesus” so that they, too, may become evangelizers.
Pope Francis warned against envy and jealousy and said that “gossip is a bomb” that can destroy a community.
