Kenya: priest, 4 others found guilty of killing bishop

November 07, 2014

A Kenyan court has convicted five men, including a Catholic priest, for the murder of Bishop Luigi Locati in 2005.

Father Peter Guyo Wago Malley was found guilty of planning the killing of Bishop Locati, the apostolic vicar of Isiolo. The priest had reportedly quarreled with the bishop over an investigation into his financial affairs, and contracted with four Muslim men who staged an ambush shooting on July 14, 2005.

The five men all potentially face the death penalty, although no execution has been carried out in Kenya in the past 25 years. Defense lawyers say that they will appeal the guilty verdicts.
