Pakistani bishops’ conference laments government inaction on religious persecution
November 07, 2014
Following the mob killing of a Christian couple in Pakistan, the justice and peace commission of the nation’s episcopal conference said that “the Pakistani government has failed in protecting the right to life of its citizens.”
The two Christians were abducted, thrown into a brick kiln, and burned to death following a blasphemy allegation.
Calling for “serious and effective measures to control the violence carried out in the name of religion,” the commission said “there is no political will” to address the persecution of Christians and other Pakistanis who are not Muslim, “and this makes minorities even more vulnerable.”
