In this year's Congressional elections, American Catholic voters leaned toward Republican candidates, matching the nationwide trend, according to exit polls cited by the New York Times.
The Times found that 53% of self-identified Catholic voters cast their ballots for a Republican candidate, while 45% supported a Democrat. Those results nearly duplicated the responses for all voters, who favored Republican by a 52-45% margin.
The exit-poll responses from Catholic voters were also nearly identical to the results in the 2010 off-year Congressional elections, when 52% of the Catholics surveyed supported a Republican and 45% a Democrat.
