US bishops to vote on revised directives for healthcare partnerships

October 30, 2014

At its November meeting in Baltimore, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will vote on whether to revise the text of “Forming New Partnerships with Health Care Organizations and Providers,” a chapter in its Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

In February, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith offered guidance pertaining to the revision of the chapter, according to a USCCB press release. The revisions are intended to “ensure that Catholic health care institutions neither cooperate immorally with the unacceptable procedures conducted in other health care entities with which they may be connected nor cause scandal as a result of their collaboration with such other entities.”
