Colombian cardinal hopeful on latest peace talks with FARC rebels

“We hope peace is near,” Cardinal Ruben Salazar Gomez of Bogota told the Fides news service, commenting on prospects for a peace agreement between the government of Colombia and FARC rebels, aimed to end years of guerrilla warfare.
The cardinal said that he had “confidence in the seriousness of the government” going into the latest round of peace talks with FARC representatives, scheduled to begin on October 24. “I also trust in the seriousness of the FARC,” he added.
