Kansas City diocese pays $10 million settle old abuse cases

October 16, 2014

The Diocese of Kansas City, Missouri has reached a settlement agreement with sex-abuse victims, agreeing to pay almost $10 million in damages.

The settlement, resolving a group of 30 different claims, was reached after an 11-day trial, just before jury deliberations began in the case.

The cases involved alleged incidents from a period ranging from 1963 to 1987. None of the cases involved the leadership of Bishop Robert Finn, who was installed as head of the Kansas City diocese in 2005, and has been found guilty of criminal charges arising from a more recent incident.
